Learning about Premiere Pro

As I had nothing to edit until I filmed more I took this time to search around Premiere Pro and learn what everything does. When doing this I found various different video transitions and effects that would really make my production come alive. Now when I come to edit next I will apply these to my video.

Music cont.

The second song that I have used in my trailer is the parody song of 'Kasha's' 'Tick Tock' by 'The Midnight Beast'. This is a very funny song and talks about being bad and going against what people say which I thought was very appropriate to put into the trailer as it will lighten the mood of the film and show the audience that it ill be a very funny film.

Things to change

After viewing what I have edited, I found that I needed to change some of the shots.
The first section of the trailer when 'Jake' comes into the room needs to have more to it and needs to build up even more to create a truly interesting and funny trailer.

The second bit that needs to be added is when the voice over says "there are three", there needs to be three quick shots of the characters, so that the audience do know that it is talking about them and the film focuses around these three characters.

Music

After looking at a lot of different trailers for both comedy and horror films I came to the decision that the trailer needs to create the illusion that it is a horror at first then slip into a comedy. I also found that a lot of comedy horror films like 'Shaun of the dead' and 'Zombieland', use music that sounds like its from an action film and this helps create the comedy aspects of the film because it makes the film seem very serious but with a comic side with the sequence of scene that are shown over the top of the music.

To get this feeling from the trailer i needed to get the right type of music. i searched around for a while then one day when watching 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' I heard the right song. the main theme music for this film had a very eerie beginning, then breaks into a fast action style song. This is why I decided to use this song.

The song was conducted and produced by Howard Shore.

Zombie Time!

[Looking at the now fully make-up covered Zombie]

Note to self: I need more practice.

We tried various different tries at getting the make up right. We had to make a young blond girl look old, dirty, grey and dead. to do this we sprayed her hair gray and painted her face in white make-up with black eyes, however this made her look like and old panda. So we had to mix white and black to create a very dull grey colour which got darker and daraker towards her eyes. It took a while but we got there in the end.

Let there be light!

On the second day of shooting we did the 'blood bath' scene but only 'Hannah's' coverage. This scene needed to show the horror aspect of the film so we needed to create a very eerie and chilling light in the room. To do this we lit a lot of candles and tea lights and placed them throughout the bathroom. I thought that we would be able to light the candles with no trouble... apparently not. After almost burning our clothes, hair and the rest of our bodies we finally set up the camera and was ready to go.

We still have to shoot 'Kev's' coverage. Fingers crossed we don't burn down the house.

The truth behind the cider

In one of the shots of the film trailer the character of ‘Kev’ is drinking from a 7 litres bottle of cider. As I did not want to use real cider seeing as it could have taking a long time to film and I didn’t want to be drunk when filming I had to make a substitute.

How to make great FAKE cider:

Two litres of apple juice

Five litres of water

And 500ml of lemonade to make it fizz!!!!

Editing #2

The second day of editing took a lot longer. This was due to the amount of footage that I had to edit. I has various different shots of the characters in different locations all saying different dialogue. This meant that they had to be carefully edited as it would destroy the sense of flow if the shots were set up in a bad order. When doing the editing I came to realise that some of the shots could have been set up in better, creating a more striking and interesting shot. This meant that I will be going back and re-shooting. Also I found that to get a better sense of flow I need to add more shots of the characters on their own.

Editting #1

The first day of editing. I started by editing the montage of the characters getting weapons together for my first editing session. this took a while as I needed to get the right sounds in the section of footage. I used different sounds effects and when editing these I had to mix and cut a lot of them so that I could, used the sounds that I recorded live on set mixed with the sounds that I found online so that it would create and realistic and bevlievable sound. The section with the BBQ fork was very difficult, as I could live action sound of the fork swooping through the air, so I had to get it online. However the only sound I found was one that one swoop and not several which is what I required. This meant that I had to use the same sound several different times so that it would flow correctly.

2nd day of filming

The actors have arrived! On Saturday I started filming with the other actors. the first actor i used was Ben Rutter. The scene that were shot ran seamlessly, due to Ben being an professional actor, it only took one or two takes to get the perfect shot. The second actor used on that day was Shauna Buckely. The scenes filmed with were the candle lit bath room and then more of the montage.

Sounds!

The collection of the diegetic sounds that I got were all from the same website.
http://www.soundbible.com/
They have a huge collection of different sound effects including guns, swords and screams.
I have used various different sounds in my film trailer, it took me a while to decide on the right scream and gun sounds, this is because they need to be realistic and believable.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Right so its the first day of filming. Due to the time I have I could only needed one actor. Myself. The scene that was being filmed was the montage where the actors are getting weapons together to defend themselves against the un-dead. I chose the various different types of weapons so that it looked as if the actors could find these lying around their house but also ones that they could have stolen and were easy to get hold of.
