Improvements to my ancillary tasks

I have been making several improvements to my ancillary tasks. With the film poster I have added in two of the quotes from the trailer making a clear connection to the two. I have also altered the pictures colouring slightly so that the weapons stand out more.

With the magazine cover I changed around the font so that each title and sub title had a different colour and font and stood out and was clear to read. I also added on a bar code, the date of the issue and the price. Therefore creating a professional looking Empire magazine cover.

Bloody Blogger!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because Blogger cannot not handle the awesomeness of my pictures it will not allow me to upload them. It says that they are too big and therefore I cannot show them on here. But I assure you they are AWESOME!!!!!

Guess what....Still editing

After my feedback of my third cut I needed to do a re-edit. I took out the shot of Shauna looking at the camera which ultimately gave the trailer a quicker flow. I re-recorded the voice over so I didn’t sound as low and tired as the first one. I also changed the first title of the name of the film connecting it to the subtitle with the use of the colours. This worked very effectively and created a visually stimulating ending.

Feed back from my 3rd cut

Today we were given feedback from our 3rd cut of our productions. Overall it was very positive and the only things I need to change around are the voice over at the start and tighter editing of the blood bath scene.

Editing goes on...and on...and on.

Today in class I focused on re-editing and improving what I already had instead of editing new material. This meant that when it comes to placing the new footage into the editing time line it will be quicker. The things that I changed was at the start of the trailer where the voice over comes in. I added a new piece of music to reduce the harshness of the voice when it speaks.

The other part that I changed was the title of the film and the ‘come soon’ title. They all seemed to fall flat when I had first made them, so they needed to be more animated. To do this is found various different transitions to go from title to video in the right style of a horror/comedy teaser trailer. I also changed the colours and the font of the titles so that they stood out and had even more impact than before.

My cast sucks!!!

For my film poster and the magazine cover I was planning on having the three main characters displayed to show the characters of the film and to help give an idea about what the film is about through their clothing and the weapons they are holding.
However due to the other characters being so busy I could not get them in the same place at the same time. So therefore I have to strike them off the cover and poster and just use the one character.

Getting a camera!!

Yesterday I organised with my friend Kate Harley-Chambers to get a professional photography camera so that I can use it for my Ancillary task. This would make my photos look professional and help me with my marks. She has rented lights from her university so that we can correctly light the subject and get a clear picture

Mother nature's still a bitch

BLOODY SNOW!!!
Due to the weather on Saturday 4th I could not film. I was planning of doing the pay off shot of the character ‘Kev’ in the field, however I now have to wait till either the snows clears or I clear it myself.

VO Script (voice over script)

Kev: Earth…home to six billion people…today as far as we know… there are three. Four months ago there was a virus outbreak that re-animated the brains of the dead. Once bitten by these monsters you became them. Soon everyone was gone. Now there is nothing left to do but fight.

(This voice over is edited and cut around so that it appears at different point throughout the trailer.)

Re-doing the voice over.

I had to re-do the voice over for the trailer because the one that is used, although is very good and works for the full film, it did not seem like the right kind of voice that would be used in a trailer. So as I couldn’t find anyone else I slightly changed my voice and used that. I had to re-rite the voice over to add in more information, because although it is a teaser trailer and you are not supposed to give away a lot of the information I need to give a little bit more than what I had before.

Photo Shoot Schedule

I have set up a day when the cast are coming over for the photo shoot for the film poster and magazine cover. On Friday the 3rd of Feb the cast are coming over my house.

We will be starting with the head shots of Shauna and then moving on to various different long shots.

Then it will be Ben’s turn of head shots and also various different long shots.

Finally we will finish with my self doing the same head shots and long shots.

After all of this we will then move on to do a few different group shots that could be used for the poster or the cover. I want to take a few different shots of everyone so that I have a choice of what would be the best to use in the posters and cover.

Examples of what the poster and magazine cover will look like

I have made a mock up on the computer of what the magazine cover and film poster will look like. They are all made up of images I found on the internet and are a very rough copy of what they will look like. It was just so I could get an idea of what goes where.

(However these images will not up load!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Titling style

It took a while to decide on the font of the titles. I needed them to look impressive and powerful but not to draw attention away from the main title which is the title of the film.
To make the title of the film stand out I chose a different font for both the main heading and the sub heading of the film. This helps them really stand out and make it seem like a real trailer.

Ancillary tasks- film magazine cover

The second part of the ancillary task is to do a film magazine cover. There are loads of different film magazines that I could have chosen to use and a basis for my cover. The magazine that I have chosen to use is 'Empire'. I chose this magazine because it is one of the biggest selling film magazines ever and its one that if the film were to be made they would more than likely promote this film as it is set to the age range that the magazine is set for.

Ancillary tasks- film poster Cont.

For the layout of the film poster I decided that I wanted to use three different pictures and add them together as I didn’t just want one picture to sum up the whole of the film. Keeping this in mind I wanted needed to look at posters that were not just one picture. So keeping this in mind I looked around and settled on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ poster.

Ancillary tasks- film poster

For my ancillary task I decided to do a film poster sand film magazine cover. For the film poster I researched a lot of different film posters in the same genre and then decided that I wanted to do something different to the typical ‘comedy horror’ poster and decided to go for the main ‘horror’ look, e.g., darkened faces and using what is the main threat in the film as one of the vectors in the picture. I started looking around at horror posters and came across exactly what I wanted to do with the faces of the main characters in the picture. I wanted to do what ‘Finial Destination’ did with the pictures of their characters.

Ancillary tasks- Drawing the magazine cover

In the lesson of Thursday I needed to focus on the magazine cover. After settling on what magazine i would be using as a out line I had to decide what I wanted on the cover. I chose to use the character of 'Kev' on the front of the magazine as it would be to busy to get the other characters to be in the picture as well. I started to draw the cover in the lesson (not in the same position as the picture will be in, I'm not a artist, I cant do that) just to see where the picture will be in relation to the title and the adverts and other captions on the cover.

Feedback for 2nd cut

A few days ago I presented my second cut of my film trailer. This cut consisted of the changed shots, the ADR’d sound and the re-editing of the first sequence. Overall it was very positive feedback with everyone understanding the genre that the film is and with all audio aspects of the trailer clear to hear.

Things to change
The things that need to be change to the shot of ‘Jake’ at the start of the trailer, this needs to be longer as it is very hard to se his face due to the quickness of the edit. Other things that need to be changed around is the language at the start of the trailer. After doing some research I found that strong language is aloud in a trailer providing that there is a restricted rating placed at the start to inform audiences. However, when viewing this trailer it seems like the strong language comes to early on and therefore will be taken out. The last thing that needed to be altered was the voice over. As it stands the voice used is much too high pitched and does give enough information about the film, so I need to do a re-write and re-record.
